Week 4 Becoming A Bondslave of Jesus Christ
As Paul introduces himself to the believers in Rome, he refers to himself as a bondslave. He doesn't tell them he is a reverend or a high ranking official in God's kingdom. In fact, he tells them he is a bondslave even before mentioning his apostleship. How amazing it is to have the high calling of being a bondslave of the Lord Jesus. Many would think that being a slave of anyone is disgraceful or a down right nasty job. But for Paul, he understood the true meaning of being enslaved to Jesus. Paul had lived for himself being a slave to sin before his conversion. He was bound by self-righteousness and hatred. Until that day when Jesus took him down a few notches and showed him the error of his way. Paul would never be the same after coming into contact with the risen Savior. After Paul was born again, he then gladly put himself under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. That is what a bondslave is. Willingly and gladly putting ourself under the master to whom we will serve for the rest of our lives. That is what it is to be a bondslave. No longer enslaved to ourselves and our sin, but walking under the direction of a new master.
